The open draw format was not voted on at the AGM mainly due to I think other matters such as replacement competition secretary etc. Therefore we are kind of stuck with it for this year or are we.
As everyone knows last year it was agreed to have open draw from last 32 for the singles tournaments. I would like to propose that the North of Scotland which is the premier tournament adopts a slightly different format. I would propose that there is still a draw but with seeds in one hat and qualifiers in the other, this will ensure that nos 1 and 2 seeds do not meet at the start, nor do 2 qualifiers. This will ensure that players progress on merit rather than possibly the luck of the draw.
I am not seeded so there is no advantage for me but feel that the whole point of having seeds is to add to the quality of the tournament and keep them apart until final stages.
I think Kenny and Raymond should have the power to run the tournaments as they see fit.
I guess if anyone disagrees then we will not be able to change? or can committee have a special meeting to agree?
I am not trying to kick off a mass debate or argument but merely trying to enhance our premier event. Any thoughts?
